UVAS Hosts Dairy Forum-2 On Climate Resilient Dairy Value Chain 

The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore’s Department of Dairy Technology organized the second Dairy Forum on Wednesday at a nearby hotel with the theme “Achieving Food Security through Climate Resilient Sustainable Dairy Value Chain” as part of its project “Capacity Building of Dairy Farmers & Industry Stakeholders on Milk Value Chain.”

DG Punjab Food Authority Raja Jahangir Anwar, Director Corporate Affairs & Agri Business Friesland Campina Engro Pakistan Syed Saud Ahmed Pasha, Member Planning and Development Punjab Aslam Javed, UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasim Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor University of Education Prof. Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha, dairy farmers and professionals, researchers, students, industry representatives, and others participated in the forum.

The secretary of livestock stated that the Livestock and Dairy Development Department is focused on strengthening veterinary services, improving breeds, genetics, and productivity. He praised UVAS for helping to develop the livestock department and sector and offering policy guidelines. He also emphasized the importance of preventing foot and mouth disease for progress.

The project of UVAS’s Capacity Building of Dairy Farmers & Industry Stakeholders on Milk Value Chain, which aims to advance and develop the dairy industry and the national economy, was discussed by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasim Ahmad. The project will be finished in June 2023, but the university plans to start comparable projects in the meat and poultry industries.

Prof. Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha, vice chancellor of the University of Education, discussed the importance of dairy development and urged Punjab province to replicate it frequently.

Raja Jahangir Anwar, DG of the Punjab Food Authority, spoke about the significance of the regulatory framework for the dairy industry, and Jhang Muhammad Azam Ali, Coordinator of the Punjab SDGs, spoke about the role of the SDGs in the dairy industry.

The forum audience was briefed by the project director, Dr. Muhammad Junaid, on the outcomes of the capacity building project on the milk value chain from 2021 to 2023.

The forum was attended by dairy industry professionals, researchers, academics, and students, who heard success stories from dairy farmers and Aslam Javed, a member of Planning and Development Punjab.
