All the knowledge any aspiring popular science writer would require to start writing science was provided by Mr. Aleem Ahmad. After the lectures, he guided a thorough writing exercise in which each participant wrote an article on a different science subject.

The goal of the workshop was to prepare participants to write clear, fluent Urdu articles on popular science topics. Prof. Shahzad Naseem, a distinguished national professor, spoke at the opening session and Prof. Saira Riaz distributed certificates in the closing session. Dr. Shahid Atiq welcomed attendees and provided an overview of the workshop.

The Khwarizmi Science Society was established in 1997 by students at the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore.

It has since become one of Pakistan’s most active science societies, hosting events such as the International Year of Astronomy 2009 and an international symposium on science and the Muslim Civilization in 2007. The Lahore Science Mela, an annual science fair, is attended by thousands of schoolchildren and the public.

The organization’s main goal is to collaborate with local, national, and international institutions and organisations to carry out science awareness and motivational campaigns.

Numerous students were inspired by the events surrounding the International Year of Astronomy, and now the organisation is working with Alif Ailaan to launch a national science awareness campaign that will target both public and private schools in far-flung Pakistani regions.
