The EUChooseSafeFood campaign primarily targets Europeans with an interest in science and food safety who are between the ages of 25 and 45.

The EUChooseSafeFood campaign offers useful and easily accessible information while encouraging citizens to consider their food choices carefully. This year, the emphasis will be on advice for ensuring good food hygiene, cutting back on food waste, and combating foodborne illnesses.

“To ensure that food is safe, wholesome, and sustainable, EFSA collaborates with scientists from across Europe and national food safety authorities. By connecting the science of food safety to the food that ends up on our plates, the #EUChooseSafeFood campaign encourages consumers to make informed food decisions and fosters a better understanding of food for all.”

Bernhard Url, executive director of EFSA, expressed his happiness to see the campaign “growing stronger with more national partners signing up to participate this year than ever before.”

The EUChooseSafeFood campaign primarily targets Europeans with an interest in science and food safety who are between the ages of 25 and 45. The percentage of those exposed to the campaign’s messages who remembered that decisions regarding food safety are based on science increased from 2 in 10 in 2021 to 4 in 10 in 2022.

Trust in the EU’s system for ensuring food safety increased as well; in 2022, 70% of citizens said they trusted the EU and national governments to ensure food safety, up 10% from 2021.

The EUChooseSafeFood campaign was officially launched today, marking the beginning of a series of initiatives that will be implemented both nationally and at the EU level in 16 different European nations.

Under the banner of #EUChooseSafeFood, the national audiences will be targeted for specific activities and events in the coming weeks and months by governments and food safety authorities throughout the EU.

16 nations, including Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, and North Macedonia, support the #EUChooseSafeFood campaign.
