First they changed the way we listen to music, then how we communicate, now Apple is hoping to revolutionise how we exercise. The tech giant has officially launched their brand new virtual home workout program, Apple Fitness+, in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, the UK and US.

The service brings the trainers, workouts and more to you for the fraction of a price of a standard gym membership – costing $14.99 per month or $119.99 per year. “Fitness+, the first fitness experience built around Apple Watch, is available today, bringing inclusive and welcoming studio-style workouts to iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV so users can work out anytime, anywhere,” Apple said. It has ten workout types – including strength, HIIT, yoga, dance, core, cycling, rowing, treadmill and cooldown – with each virtual class lead by trainers and set to motivating music.

In a major difference from other online workouts, Fitness+ displays live data from your Apple Watch on your screen (such as steps and heart rate) to crate a more “immersive experience.” “Whether users are looking for a daily routine, want to try something new, know what they like to do, or are just getting started, Fitness+ offers workouts for everyone from a team of celebrated, charismatic, and passionate trainers who are specialists in their fields, and are inspired to coach all levels, from beginners to fitness enthusiasts.”

To use Fitness +, you will need to have an Apple Watch Series 3 or later paired with an iPhone 6S or later and the latest iOS update. Once you’ve updated your iPhone and Apple Watch, Fitness+ can be accessed through a new tab in the Fitness app that’s preinstalled on your phone. iPad users will be able to download the Fitness app from the App Store, while Apple TV users will automatically see the app installed after updating.

The fitness app is a subscription service, with Australian pricing as follows:

  • $14.99 per month or $119.99 per year
  • Three months are included free for anyone who purchases an Apple Watch Series 3 or later
  • One month is included for existing Apple Watch users
