Govt-seeks-working-paper-to-modernise-oil-sector

Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Petroleum Nadeem Babar has sought from the energy think-tank a working paper to ensure sufficient supplies of oil and low volatility in its price across the country.

The SAPM was chairing the second meeting of the think-tank at the Ministry of Energy, said a statement issued on Monday.

After extensive deliberations, the SAPM directed the members to chalk out a working paper on the use of technology and automation system for the collection of real-time data in the oil sector. It must also include ways to upgrade oil refineries and restructure deregulated oil market, he added.

The forum, which included renowned experts and professionals in the field of energy, identified key areas for policy and regulatory interventions for improvement of the pricing mechanism, Petroleum deregulation of the oil market, licencing of retails/petrol pumps and other challenges and role of refineries in the downstream oil sector.

Possible ways of expanding the LPG sector would also be presented in the next think-tank meeting.
