World Environment Day is an oath to maintain sustainable ecosystem, Pakistan Navy participates.

World Environment Day is an oath to maintain sustainable ecosystem at every nook of land and turns out Pakistan Navy is ahead with active participation. The day is being organized by United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in order to spread awareness regarding the prevailing environmental issues on an international level.

Since 1974, this day is celebrated on 5th June every year and it has become a dynamic platform for encouraging progress on the environmental dimensions of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Over 150 countries participate each year in the event along with other non-governmental organizations, major corporations, and civil societies to take action on critical environmental challenges on the face of the planet. The theme for this year’s World Environment Day is biodiversity — a call for action to combine global efforts to combat the species loss, misuse of natural resources and degradation of the natural world.

According to a latest report by the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) stated that around one million plant and animal species are facing extinction. The result of this extinction may increase the losses in biodiversity thus, encouraging the spread of infectious diseases and viruses.

Keeping in mind the importance of issue in hand, Pakistan Navy is heading towards an extra mile by arousing its efforts for preventing biodiversity loss and preserving nature for country’s future. Pakistan Navy celebrates World Environment day every year by arranging a number of amusing activities.

These amusing activities include various seminars and lectures on the significance of World Environment Day to spread public awareness, cleaning campaigns in Harbors and Coasts, environment awareness walks, social media campaigns and displaying of environment protection banners and pictures  at various public places. Besides, Pakistan Navy has been collaborating with other agencies as well for environment related initiatives.

The initiatives reflects Pakistan Navy’s seriousness towards the understanding of global climate change and its impact on lives. Similarly, on this year’s environment day also, the Pakistan Navy confirmed the validity to preserve national environment in its area of responsibility in close collaboration with Ministry of Climate Change and other national as well as International organizations; especially against air and marine pollution which directly affects the quality of life.

As a nation, Pakistan is strongly united towards accomplishing the collective good for its land and people. These small steps initiated by Pakistan Navy somehow act as a stepping stone towards a sustainable ecosystem and biodiversity for the preservation of lives, land and resources.
