GE Renewable Energy and Sapphire Wind Power Co Limited (SWPCL) joining hands for initiative that is first of its kind to install emergency medical center near Sapphire Wind Farm, Jhimpir located in a village of district Thatta. Jhimpir is within Gharo-Keti Bandar Wind Corridor having generation capacity 50,000MW of electricity per Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB).
The Jhimpir corridor falls in Pakistan’s south-east between Karachi and Hyderabad, 95 km from coast in a semi-desert area, this makes difficult for residents to reach medical care.
This shared effort aims to offer in time basic medical services to the community. Additionally 100,000 dollar commitment for creating awareness from place to place EHS and serving community, in case of emergency for medical care. GE together with SWPCL plans to identify risks, ensure standards in quality control, and maintain resources for a smooth and speedy execution to achieve milestone.
The Sapphire Wind Farm Project have 33 GE 1.6-82.5 wind turbines from GE Renewable Energy. This first farm that receives award of Feed in Tariff (FIT) by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA). It provides energy to Noori Abad Industrial Area but also to remote areas.
“It was stressful for residents of rural and remote locations such as Jhimpir have to travel long distance to get medical services”, said CEO of SWPCL, Nadeem Abdullah.
This medical facility is first of kind in its structure at this location, offering prominent level of medical services in off-grid settings. GE and Aga Khan Medical University Hospital designed and implemented the clinic having quality medical diagnostics and treatment equipment, a pharmacy, and a CE certified ambulance. Aim of this effort is to support community with treatment capacity of 60 patients per day.
