STAFF REPORT ISB: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) had called for submission of record of banned SIMs from network operators. The unverified SIMs delinking was part of National Action Plan to curb terrorism.


In response, the telecommunication companies have submitted the record to PTA which will be overviewed and delinking of 98.3 million SIMs will no more attached to any Computer National Identification Card (CNIC).


The PTA has announced that the unverified SIMs record will be permanently removed from the database this week.


According to the sources, it is noticed that Telenor has most number of unverified SIMs that are about 36.9 million followed by Mobilink whose number is 22.3 million. It will help curtail several crimes because most of the times unverified SIMs were used by the felons for roguish activities.
