STAFF REPORT ISB: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has approved cases of 300 shortlisted students under a Pakistan-USAID scholarship programme.

The decision has been taken at a meeting of the Scholarship Management Committee held recently in Islamabad.HEC Executive Director, Dr. Mansoor Akbar Kundi, appreciated the USAID for assisting Pakistan in the education sector and its support to establish high-class educational centres with qualified professionals.

“Since 2004, 1,807 scholarships have been provided to talented and deserving students,” said HEC Adviser Research and Development Dr Tariq Mahmood in his remarks.

USAID Director Thomas Le Blanc said the US government is committed to taking necessary steps to ensure that the country comes out of its current challenges.

“Under the phase-II of the programme, financial assistance will be provided to approximately 3,000 needy youth in the next five years and fully-funded scholarships will be provided to students of agriculture, medical, business administration and engineering fields in top universities of Pakistan,” he said. According to him, fifty per cent of the scholarships have been reserved for female students.
