STAFF REPORT CHITRAL: The Sarhad Rural Support Program (SRSP) has launched a 30 KV micro hydro power house MHP at Broghul valley in order to bring positive changes in the lives of people who are still living in the stone-age era.

General Officer Commanding Malakand Major General Javed Mahmood Bukhari inaugurated the power house. Chief executive officer of SRSP Shahzda Masoodul Mulk was present on the occasion.

“This power house will bring positive changes in the lives of the local community,” the GOC said in his remarks. He said that people of this backward and border area are very loyal to Pakistan but unfortunately they are still deprived from electricity.

In his remarks, MNA Chitral Shahzada Iftikharuddin said in his speech that students of the area who were faced difficulties in their studies during night time will benefit from the electricity. Some beneficiaries of the power house told this scribe that we are still deprived from electricity in this modern era of information technology and use Latten and wood for lighting.

They said that we hope that we will get relief from kerosene oil and burning wood for lighting and heating purpose because the area gets 5 feet snow in winter season. District Program Manager SRSP Tariq Ahmad said that this power house will complete with a cost of Rs.7.5 million and will benefit 70 households in its surrounding.
