STAFF REPORT ISB: Almost a dozen companies from Pakistan are among the winners of the Saarc Corporate and Business Awards with Union Capital Ltd of Bangladesh clinching the top position in the region.

The three-day SAFA Summit has recently been concluded with award ceremony where 80 Saarc Corporate and Business Awards presented to the leading South Asian companies in almost all sectors of economy.

The awards covered almost all sectors of economy including private sector banks, cooperative banks, insurance sector, financial services sector, manufacturing sector, communication and IT sector, non-governmental organisations, agriculture sector and public sector entities.

From Pakistan, Askari Bank Ltd, Allied Bank Ltd, MCB Bank Ltd, EFU Life Assurance Ltd, Arif Habib Corporation Ltd, First Habib Modarba, Engro Foods Ltd, Rafhan Maize Products Company Ltd, Hub Power Company Ltd, Citizens Foundation and Al-Ghazi Tractors Ltd won awards on the basis of evaluation of published annual reports which reflect transparency, accountability and corporate governance in financial reporting.

While appreciating the efforts of ICMAP in contributing in the economic development, HEC Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed said, “Today Pakistan is passing through a very critical phase which requires coordinated and collective efforts from all regional countries to achieve sustainable development.”

Subodh Kumar Agarwal, President SAFA, highlighted, “We are devoted to position, maintain and develop the accountancy profession amongst SAARC members and ensure its continued eminence in the world of accountancy for public interest of individual countries.”
