STAFF REPORT IBD: With the consensus of majority of the provincial governments, it has been decided that Rs 1200/per 40kg should be maintained as minimum guaranteed price (MGP) of wheat for year 2013-14.
This was disclosed while giving briefing to the National Assembly Standing Committee on National Food Security and Research during a recently held meeting on the wheat issues.
The meeting was informed that all the provinces, except Sindh were of the opinion that support price would be maintained at last years level of Rs 1200/per 40kg.
During the meeting, Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan, informed the Committee that the price of the wheat has been discussed with all the provinces and it was mutually agreed that almost the sowing period of wheat has been over due to which at this stage if the prices are increased all the benefits will go to the middleman and the farmer cannot be benefited.
