STAFF REPORT IBD: The 15th meeting of COMSATS Coordinating Council has recently been concluded in Turkey after its two-day deliberations on 12-point agenda and provided an oversight for the activities of COMSATS Network of International SandT Centres of Excellence and takes necessary decisions on important matters relating to its membership and programmes.
During the meeting, Advisor to the President TÜBITAK, Çagatay Telli, in his informative presentation on Principles of RandD Policy: An International Perspective emphasized the importance of private-sector RandD. The host of the meeting, Dr. Imtinan Elahi Qureshi, Executive Director COMSATS, recounted the outcomes of the recently held Commission Meeting of COMSATS and considered the member countries support the most vital impetus for the working of the organization.
Chairperson of COMSATS Coordinating Council, Prof. Eduardo Posada, during his address at the Inaugural Session, stated that the participating Centres can learn from each other in aspects such as organization, incentives for scientific production, financing, marketing strategies, and intellectual property policies.
According to the communiqué, the meeting renewed commitment to the objectives of the Network, inter alia, urged the developing countries to allocate atleast 2 per cent of their GDPs for science, technology and innovation related initiatives.
