IST has the heritage of celebrating World Space Week for last 13 years and was ranked first for organizing maximum number of events in Pakistan for year 2017 by International World Space Week Association (WSWA).

Following the legacy of past and fulfilling the mantra of Space Awareness, Institute of Space Technology has planned number of competitions, workshops and activities for students of schools/colleges in the major areas of Space Knowledge, Space Innovation, Space Creative Writing, Space Technology Demonstration, Space Fine Arts, Space Visual Arts, Space Graphics, Space Mathematics, Space Entertainment and Space Business during October 4-10, 2018 to celebrate World Space Week, the largest public space event on earth.

The United Nations General Assembly declared 4-10 October as World Space Week in 1999. It aims to educate people around the world about the benefits of space, to encourage greater use of space for sustainable socio-economic development, to excite young people about science, to foster international cooperation in space outreach and education and to demonstrate public support for space programs.

The success of any space program relies greatly on public understanding and support; therefore it is important to communicate the benefits of Space Science & Technology to the public on regular basis. Each year, the World Space Week Association (WSWA) selects a theme for the World Space Week to provide a focus of the activities and events throughout the world. The theme for WSW 2018 is “Space Unites the World”.

An interactive forum regarding World Space Week-2018 was organized at Institute of Space Technology, Islamabad on September 25, 2018. A total of 40 faculty representatives from 35 different educational institutions of twin cities and surrounding areas participated in this forum.

The basic aim of this forum was to introduce the concept of ‘Space Ambassadors’ at various educational institutions, who were guided about different events and activities of World Space Week-2018 at IST. WSW 2018 at IST will encompass over 200 activities including many space themed competitions.

Institute of Space Technology would welcome the enthusiastic participation of the students of schools/colleges and their families in WSW during October 4-6, 2018.
