Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET) recently hosted a pivotal meeting gathering Consortium Partners of the ACTIVE Climate Action Project. This project, co-funded by the European Union, marked its inception with a three-day workshop focused on Curriculum Development.
The event welcomed esteemed personalities including Professor Enrique Nava from Malaga University, Spain; Professor BS Chowdhry from Mehran University of Engineering & Technology (MUET); Professor Mihai Ciuc from POLITEHNICA University of Bucharest; Dr. Kapal Dev from Munster University, Ireland; Dr. Marium Jalal from NUTECH; Engr—Muhammad Zakir Shaikh from MUET; and various other distinguished delegates from academia.
In his opening address, Vice Chancellor of SSUET, Prof. Dr. Vali Uddin, emphasized the university’s commitment to international collaboration and its pivotal role in shaping future generations. He lauded the ACTIVE Climate Action Project for its efforts in addressing climate change resilience and leveraging Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to combat environmental issues.
Echoing this sentiment, Professor Enrique Nava commended SSUET’s proactive stance towards environmental sustainability and emphasized the importance of collaborative initiatives in education, particularly in the realm of sustainable environmental protection.
Professor BS Chowdhry shared insights into the ERASMUS+ Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) projects, highlighting the significance of the ACTIVE project in bridging the gap between ICT engineering and environmental sciences in Pakistan. This unique initiative focuses on capacity building and interdisciplinary training to address pressing environmental challenges across urban and rural areas.
Dean of the Faculty of Electrical & Computer Engineering, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Aamir, stressed the importance of curriculum development in enhancing teaching and learning, emphasizing the need for skill-focused courses to prepare students for the future.
Dr. Marium Jalal presented details about the curriculum development of a new MS degree program in multidisciplinary environmental engineering, integrating modern ICT technologies. The meeting also delved into discussions on innovative teaching methodologies, project quality assurance, equipment selection, and financial management.
In a momentous occasion, Professor Enrique Nava, alongside Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Vali Uddin and other dignitaries, inaugurated the Content Development Lab at SSUET, symbolizing a new era of collaboration and innovation.
The meeting delegates also took the opportunity to visit Usmani Associates and the Climate Action Center, further strengthening partnerships and fostering dialogue on climate resilience and environmental sustainability.
