Top online gaming companies have joined forces to form the Skilled Online Games Institute (SOGI) in an attempt to counteract false impressions and “misinformation” about real money online skill gaming.

The board of SOGI boasts prominent figures from various online gaming firms, enjoying the backing of esteemed bodies like the All India Gaming Federation (AIGF) and the eSports Players Welfare Association (EPWA). According to institute representatives, they are actively seeking academics with expertise in industry, social, legal, and psychological aspects.

To provide comprehensive training in the technical, managerial, and legal facets of the gaming industry, the institute, headquartered in Gurgaon, has partnered with prestigious institutions such as IIM Bangalore, IIT Roorkee, and the National University of Judicial Sciences Kolkata. Additionally, Skilled Online Games Institute intends to collaborate with numerous international counterparts.

Amrit Kiran Singh, President of SOGI and a seasoned professional with over two decades of experience as the CEO of Jack Daniels in South and Southeast Asia, emphasized the institute’s mission.

He stated, “The mission of SOGI is to be the repository of knowledge concerning all aspects of this industry, positive and negative, which will allow for a balanced debate, to ensure that Indian companies can continue to participate in this industry that has great potential, and can compete with its international peers in a responsible manner.”

Singh further pointed out that the negative perception stemming from misinformation has the potential to significantly harm any industry. He stressed the need for the industry to take responsibility for providing accurate, verifiable information on all aspects of the sector to facilitate well-informed decision-making.

While the online gaming industry has experienced substantial growth over the past five years, Singh emphasized the importance of regulation keeping pace with this expansion. He underscored that it is incumbent upon the industry to ensure that accurate and reliable data is readily available, forming the basis for decisions regarding the sector.

SOGI is committed to collaborating with regulatory bodies to mitigate the adverse effects of misinformation while actively striving to share knowledge with a wider audience. The institute’s establishment signifies a pivotal step towards fostering a well-informed and responsible online gaming ecosystem.
