COMSATS Signs LoI for Sustainable Energy Transition in Pakistan

Schneider Electric, a pioneer in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, and Pakistan’s top energy research and development institution, COMSATS University’s Energy Research Centre (ERC), have signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to improve energy performance, cut consumption, and train future energy experts to hasten the transition to sustainable energy under “Access to Energy Program” in Pakistan.

As an impact company, Schneider Electric’s mission is to empower everyone to make the most of our energy and resources, bridging progress and sustainability for all. We are setting the standard for sustainability initiatives.

The Access to Energy Program works to ensure that everyone has access to safe, affordable, dependable, and sustainable energy options, to enhance people’s lives and livelihoods, and to promote economic growth through energy access.

As part of the partnership, ERC will seek out and work with Schneider Electric on initiatives that make use of their leading-edge knowledge and innovations in sustainability, decarbonization, and microgrid controller solutions as well as ERC’s well-established expertise in the study, development, deployment, operation, and maintenance of renewable energy generation systems. The “Access to Energy Program” will use Schneider Electric as its primary technological partner for microgrid solutions.

Humayun Akhlaq, country president of Schneider Electric in Pakistan, stated: “We are thrilled to extend our collaboration with Energy Research Centre COMSATS University. This LoI will advance us in realising our shared vision of a nation that is decarbonized, digitalized, and decentralised.”

“In addition to helping Pakistan achieve its sustainability goals, our technology and industry know-how will open up new doors for the energy transition and empower remote communities to take the initiative. I’m proud of our partnership and eager to see everyone live in a more sustainable future.”

Dr. Rashid A. Khan, Additional Registrar at COMSATS University, said, “We are delighted to partner with Schneider Electric, a recognised pioneer in microgrid technology and sustainability, to better address the nation’s energy needs.”

“Through this alliance, we will conduct studies on baseload power solutions for the regions of the nation that have the greatest need. Our LoI with Schneider Electric is an example of how our partnership is governed by the shared philosophy and belief in clean energy, innovation, and sustainability.”

The LoI expands on the productive collaboration between Schneider Electric and ERC COMSATS University to update Pakistan’s energy grid. To increase the effectiveness and dependability of the system, Schneider Electric is offering the microgrid controller solution.

Microgrids are self-sufficient electrical networks that incorporate local energy resources like solar. This allows hosts to produce their own electricity on-site and use it as-and-when-needed, regardless of the state of the nation’s utility grid. For financial and environmental reasons, businesses of all sizes are turning to microgrids and distributed energy resources.
