Minister of State and SAPM for Industries and Production, stated that Pakistan’s dependence on imported oil would be reduced and that the completion of the Pak-Iran gas pipeline project would be the only solution to the energy crisis.

He communicated these perspectives tending to a gathering of industrialists at Islamabad Office of Business and Industry at Chamber House on Wednesday.

He stated that a proposal to grant industrial status to the agricultural sector is being discussed in order to boost economic growth, create new jobs, and increase agricultural output. This would assist in modernizing and mechanizing the sector, making it more productive and efficient.

The industrialists previously briefed the minister on the challenges facing the capital city’s established industries. They informed the minister that the capital city is home to approximately 2000 businesses, including those in the pharmaceutical, engineering, and information technology sectors.

They stated that the Islamabad industrial park should begin actual construction. They sought representation in the various attached ministries of Industry and Production, including Utility Stores Corporation (USC), in order to provide assistance in modernizing USC operations.

They also demanded that the information technology (IT) industry be given industrial status because doing so would give IT industry access to government incentives and support, lower interest rates on financing, and a more favorable regulatory environment.

Vahid Jalalzadeh, chairman of the Commission of National Security and Foreign Policy of the Majlis of the Islamic Republic of Iran, led a high-level delegation on Wednesday and called on the Federal Minister for Commerce, a significant development for bilateral relations.

During the gathering, the two sides consented to investigate new roads of coordinated effort in the fields of aeronautics and exchange between the two countries. They emphasized the significance of expanding connectivity and the necessity of strengthening economic ties. To increase travel and business opportunities, Chairman Jalalzadeh proposed establishing direct flights between Iran and Pakistan.

Federal Minister for Commerce acknowledged the significance of this proposal and expressed his support for the establishment of direct flights as a means of facilitating trade and encouraging human-to-human interactions.

The Pak-Iran Gas Pipeline project has been a topic of discussion for some time. The minister emphasized the significance of speeding up the Gas Pipeline project because of its enormous potential for energy collaboration between the two nations.

He pledged his commitment to overcome any obstacles and proceed with the pipeline, which would benefit both nations significantly. Chairman Jalalzadeh insisted that solid steps must be taken to raise the current trade volume, which is approximately $2 billion, to a multi-billion dollar level.

This sentiment was echoed by the Federal Minister for Commerce, who emphasized the significance of opening new border markets and establishing a barter trade system to increase commercial exchange. He believed that these measures would significantly increase the volume of trade between Iran and Pakistan.

Chairman Jalalzadeh extended an invitation to the commerce minister to visit Iran as a sign of continued cooperation between the two countries. In addition, the meeting covered the upcoming 18th of this month, which is one of six inaugurations of the Pasheen Border.
