YTL PowerSeraya Expects To Begin Electricity Imports From Malaysia

“When there is energy-efficient electrical equipment, the government does not need to build expensive power plants,” Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad told reporters after launching the Malaysia Energy Literacy Program (MELP).

Prior to this, it was reported that the government was enacting legislation to allow the Energy Commission to provide more comprehensive coordination and effective regulation.

The Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change (NRECC) is still studying the draft of the Bill (RUU) on energy efficiency and conservation, according to its minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

He stated that many countries have adopted laws governing energy efficiency and conservation, such as the United Kingdom (UK), where all electrical appliances are energy efficient, resulting in a consistent decrease in energy demand over a 20-year period.

According to Nik Nazmi, the Malaysia Energy Literacy Program will be a national initiative with a specific agenda to increase people’s sensitivity to and knowledge of the energy industry.

He stated that the program, which is being carried out in collaboration with Tenaga Nasional Bhd and various stakeholders, is aimed at raising people’s awareness of the importance of energy and playing a role in energy management in order to produce energy-sensitive consumers.

“When we can increase people’s knowledge of energy resources, we can react more efficiently, contribute to energy sustainability, take care of the environment, and move forward in a sustainable manner,” he said.

The Malaysian Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change is in charge of energy, natural resources, environment, climate change, land, mines, minerals, geoscience, biodiversity, wildlife, national parks, forestry, surveying, mapping, and geospatial data.

Tenaga Nasional Berhad, also known as Tenaga Nasional or simply Tenaga, is a Malaysian multinational electricity company with MYR 182.60 billion in assets. It is the only electric utility company in Peninsular Malaysia and the largest publicly-traded power company in Southeast Asia.

Through Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd, it serves over 10.3 million customers across Peninsular Malaysia (except Sarawak) and the East Malaysian state of Sabah. TNB’s primary activities are electricity generation, transmission, and distribution.
