Federal Minister for Information and technology on Wednesday said that National Information Technology board (NITB) had great importance for the country, stressing the need for more transparency in its affairs.

Chairing the Board of Governors’ meeting of NITB, Federal Minister said all the decisions should be taken on merit and no compromise would be made on transparency. He said the NITB had become an autonomous institution and now it was the responsibility of all CEOs to implement the proposals and recommendations of BoG.

Following the footsteps of the federal cabinet, the meeting was conducted with the help of tablets which approved the formation of the Executive Committee, HR & Administration Committee, Audit & Finance Committee, and Technical/Procurement Committees. The meeting also deliberated upon NITB rules, management, consultancy and other relevant matters.

The HR & Administration Committee shall be responsible for recommending human resource management policy to the Board. The Committee shall have overall responsibility for recommending selection, evaluation, compensation (including retirement benefits) and succession planning of CEO, CFO and Company Secretary.

The NITB Board of Governors comprises of Additional Secretary MoITT, Secretary Finance, Secretary Science and Technology, Member IT, Director General Technical, Secretary NTISB, and CEO NITB.

On 11th August 2014, Pakistan Computer Bureau (PCB) and Electronic Government Directorate (EGD) were merged to form The National Information Technology Board (NITB) commissioned by the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoIT).

The NITB aims to address the operational challenges of all government departments and Ministries. NITB specializes in key automation, design, development, and implementation of robust IT technologies to promote the e-governance culture in all public departments and holistically develop plans, technologies, and infrastructures to boost the performance of the public sector.

NITB aims to transform the lives of Pakistani citizens through digital empowerment by offering state-of-the-art Information Technology support to Federal Ministries and Divisions for enhancing their performance, quality, and productivity. NITB envisions a digitally developed and IT-Enabled Pakistan in the next five years with impeccable IT consultancy services.
