PSQCA Inaugurates Newly Established Fertiliser Testing Laboratory

Director General Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) Zainul Abedin inaugurated a newly established fertiliser testing laboratory in the Quality Control Centre on Wednesday, which would examine all fertiliser products including single super phosphate (SSP) and bio-organic phosphate (BOP), a statement said.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Zainul Abedin pledged that all fertiliser testing labs would be upgraded soon for ensuring quality and standards of Pakistani products to compete in international markets.

As per a statuary regulatory order released by the then minister of Science and Technology in 2020, another 61 food and non-food items including fertiliser products inducted in PSQCA’s mandatory list, and now it is for a first that a lab would examine all fertiliser products including SSP, BOP, Urea, DAP, etc. Director Standard Development Centre Muhammad Rizwan and director of Quality Control Centre Khurram Mateen briefed the DG about performance of their sections and infrastructural renovation.

The DG said all possible support would be provided to the department for promoting quality culture in the country, facilitating the industry through technical guidance.

This Lab provides the facility for re-analysis of disputed samples, analysis/ pre-evaluation of fertilizer samples before registration of the product to check manufacture ability and quality of the product before manufacturer/ importer’s registration for its sale within the administrative boundaries of Punjab.

The Pakistan Standards & Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) is an autonomous body. Its main objective is to regulate and enforce quality standards in Pakistan. Anything that is certified by the PSQCA is issued the Pakistan Standards label.
The Quality Control Centre (QCC) of PSQCA is a multifunctional testing laboratory which test quality of food, building materials (cement), papers & textiles, sugar, Microbiology, beverages and Water. QCC is organized in six sections. It can test 107 different items, including 38 food, 28 electrical, 02 auto vehicles, 03 animal feed, 3 textile, 14 civil/building materials, 6 washing/cosmetics, 2 steel, 9 chemical division and 4 fertilizer items.
