The Penang International Science Fair at the Butterworth Arena received good response. THE 10th annual Penang International Science Fair (PISF) 2022 was a success thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Penang government, Penang Science Cluster (PSC) and several key industry players.
Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow launched the fair at the Butterworth Arena in Taman Ampang Jajar, Butterworth. He said it was the first time the event was held in Seberang Prai. The Butterworth Arena was the first of six venues. The others were SMK Permai Indah, SMJK Sacred Heart, Arus Academy and ViTrox Academy where the events were held on weekdays, ending on Dec 10 at the Penang Skills Development Centre.
The events were organised as part of PSC’s mission to inspire innovation with a focus on sparking interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and cultivating innovative mindsets in young students through unique and stimulating hands-on activities. “This year’s PISF has 35 exhibitors comprising companies and 10 MakerLab schools.
“They held 10,000 workshops over 32 different experiments, 23 career talks, virtual factory tours and three major competitions, including the Coolest Projects Malaysia where 600 projects were submitted from several states in Malaysia, including entries from Vietnam and the Philippines,” he said. Chow congratulated Penang Science Cluster (PSC) for successfully organising the fair for the tenth time since its inception in 2011.
Also present were Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P. Ramasamy, Penang youth and sports committee chairman Soon Lip Chee and PSC chief executive officer Datuk Ooi Peng Ee. In his welcome address, Ooi said PISF was a culmination of all the hard work and initiatives that PSC had executed throughout the year, thanks to the strong partnership between industry, schools, community and the state government.
“It is in the PISF where students who have gone through our numerous workshops and TechMentor programmes earlier in the year will showcase their projects for sharing as well as competitions. “PSC’s mission is to transform our young students into tech talents of the future,” he added.
