Dr Manzoor Hussain Soomro bestowed upon the Government of China Friendship Award 2020 and 2021, by the Ambassador of P. R. China to Pakistan.
Dr Manzoor Hussain Soomro honored to bestowed upon the Government of China Friendship Award 2020 and 2021, by the Ambassador of P. R. China to Pakistan H. E. Mr. Nong Rong at a graceful ceremony at the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan.
Dr Manzoor Soomro honoured the prestigious award in 2020 for his contributions to China’s Socialist Modernization, STI & science, education exchanges and cooperation with ECO countries & beyond along the Belt and Road. He has been appointed as a Distinguished Overseas Expert of China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) since 2020.
After decorating Dr Manzoor Hussain Soomro with the Medallion, the Certificate was awarded. Dr Soomro’s family also joined the ceremony, and his 12 years old granddaughter presented her two poems on “Cooperation” and “Coronavirus” to the Ambassador. Souvenirs were then exchanged with a special Sichuan Panda for the youngest.
The Chinese Government’s Friendship Award, commonly known as China Friendship Award, is the People’s Republic of China’s highest award for “foreign experts who have made outstanding contributions to the country’s economic and social progress”
Dr. Liu Minhua, Vice President of Beijing Technology and Business University (BTBU), also presented Prof. Manzoor Soomro with a Letter of Appointment in September 2022. The appointment of Prof. Manzoor as the first Honorary Professor of the university BTBU was to thank him for his important contribution in the past and to usher in further achievements together in the future.
Earlier in an activity, Dr. Soomro delivered the 16th lecture on International Economics and Management (SIEM) for the freshmen of the School of SIEM on the topic of Youth and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Dr. Soomro is also a winner of the Order of Academic Palms award of the French Republic in 2013 in recognition of his contributions in developing STI and Science Education cooperation between Pakistan and France.
Dr. Soomro is currently serving as the Advisor at ECO Science Foundation, earlier he was President of the ECOSF, an intergovernmental organization of 10 countries; Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, that promotes science & technology and STEM education.
He has served as Chairman of Pakistan Science Foundation, Director General of the Pakistan Scientific and Technological Information Centre and Director General of the Pakistan Museum of Natural History. He had 6 Industrial patents, nine gene sequences and over 200 publications, latest being a Textbook of Plant Nematology
He has also served as Senior Researcher at the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council, Professor at Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam, Pakistan, and as an integrated pest management expert at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations where he implemented a non-formal education programme through an innovative ‘Farmer Field School (FFS)’ approach in South East Asia.
Dr. Soomro is member of numerous scientific societies, bodies and forums including the Global Council of IAP SEP, the Governing Board of the International Science, Technology and Innovation Centre for South-South Cooperation under the auspices of UNESCO (ISTIC), Malaysia, the Asian STI Think Tanks Network (ASTN) and the Intergovernmental Platform for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).
Dr. Manzoor Hussain Soomro is an eminent scientist and academician of Pakistan with more than 30 years of experience as a researcher, educator and science manager.
