Usman Institute of Technology (UIT), leading science and technology institution of Pakistan, recently organized a seminar titled “Valuing Health Loss in Karachi City from Water Contamination and Household Defensive Behavior” for presenting findings and discuss in detail their solutions from the HEC-funded research project.
Notables from Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR), World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Hisaar Foundation (NGO), NED University of Engineering and Technology, University of Karachi, Barrett Hodgson University, Mehran University, SZABIST, and Applied Economics Research Center (AERC), along with students and faculty members of UIT has attended the seminar. More than 200 people participated in the seminar.
The subject interactive and consultative meeting was aimed to share conclusions of this study with the key investors and to take their valuable contribution to identify the nature and intensity of the problem and its cost-effective solutions.
Issues related to water contamination in Karachi, counting demand-supply gap, unequal distribution, health problems caused by water contamination were highlighted in the seminar.
Mohammad Iftikhar Mubashir, Head of Humanities and Basic Sciences Department, and Head of Management and Social Sciences Department, UIT and coordinator of the seminar said that Usman Institute of Technology has molded itself as a catalyst for community to uplift regarding environment and socio-economic factors.
He further added, “I am thankful to NUST Islamabad for working in partnership with UIT and intended at the betterment of society and our nation.”
