In short, materials are the pillar of our societies from small heart stunts to big Aeroplanes. There are various kinds of Engineering Materials; which are in use for day-to-day facilities. In this modern world, materials are basic building units in many industries. The materials contributes to a number of innovative advancements such as plastics, environment, information technology, health and aerospace.


Materials Science and Engineering


The two interchangeable terms are Materials Engineering and Materials Science. The former involves the implementation of Materials Science knowledge into designing new materials with practical importance. On other hand, materials science purely deals with structure-property relationship understanding.
Materials Science and Engineering involve knowledge of basics sciences such as Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics due to emerging interdisciplinary applications. Many times different engineering disciplines are also involving e.g. Civil, Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, Electronics, and Telecommunication.


Roles of Materials Experts


From a work point of view, a Materials Engineer is accountable for making novel products and processing practices on already provided scientific paths. Whereas responsibility of Materials scientists is to discover, create, and develop new materials. Many universities prepare graduates, who are both Engineers and Scientists in a particular area.
This trendy field consists of four broad groups of Materials.
(1) Metal and Alloys
(2) Polymeric Materials
(3) Engineering Ceramics
(4) Composite Materials (as already discussed)
Furthermore, some categories of this study involve specific research fields:
(1) Customizing properties of various materials
(2) Performance Testing of Materials in particular applications
(3) Structure and Composition of Materials
(4) Processing and Preparing Materials
This Engineering is focused on employing the fundamental understanding of this field. The experts have to prepare and generate materials with novice attributes that can meet the needs of people in the country.

Role of Materials in Society


The role of engineered materials is going to be significantly enhanced in the present and future times. The primary factor that impact that role is materials cost, development, environmental factors, decrease in conventional materials, advanced R& D and most importantly market needs. The significance of materials in all aspects of life cannot be denied. The bright future is waiting for more sophisticated, and cost-effective materials.
Finally, the Materials Engineering and technology field have the ability to solve complex interdisciplinary issues in many economic sectors. Therefore, the smartest and developed nations are creating new fields for designing marvellous materials for competitive benefits.
