A Pakistani user on twitter claimed that he reserved Starlink internet service for his location in Islamabad and surprisingly, it actually worked. The user was later asked to pay for the services. This may be a sign that the company would soon be launching in the country.

For those who don’t know about Starlink, this was a project launched under the Elon Musk owned SpaceX in 2015. The project has aimed to provide its internet services globally by 2022. And Pakistan may be a part of this project soon.

The constellation will consist of thousands of mass-produced small satellites in low Earth orbit, working in combination with ground transceivers. Nearly 900 Starlink satellites are currently in orbit. The project is already in testing phases in the Northern US and Southern Canada. Since these satellites are much smaller and advanced as compared to the normal ones, the speeds achieved will be much higher with better connectivity. Reports claims that Starlink would be providing an average speed of 900Mbps and is reliable than other ISPs.

Moreover, Starlink reservations are only based on invites and it would not be provided to everyone around the country. Users will have to pay a refundable amount of $99 to reserve their location for beta testing. After reservation, they will be put on waiting list. The company will later choose some applicants from this waiting list and invitations would be send out.

You can try placing an order for yourself at Starlink’s website.

Furthermore, this news is based on just a tweet posted by a Pakistani user. The tweet has no connection with the confirmation of Starlink coming to Pakistan so this may end up as a false rumor too.
