Two members of South Africa’s men’s cricket team tested positive for COVID-19 following a first round of testing ahead of the team’s upcoming series against Sri Lanka, Cricket South Africa (CSA) said. “CSA confirms that two members of the Proteas team have returned positive COVID-19 results following their scheduled first round of testing ahead of the team’s entry into the Bio-Secure Environment for the Betway Test series against Sri Lanka,” CSA said in a statement on Friday. CSA did not give any details of the members who tested positive or mention whether there will be any replacements called up for them.

Earlier this month, CSA confirmed that the series will go on following fears stoked by the cancellation of the ODI series against England due to the coronavirus. The series is due to be played from December 26-30 at SuperSport Park in Centurion and January 3-7 at Imperial Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. South Africa, the continent’s worst-affected country, is experiencing a second wave of coronavirus infections which prompted the government to announce further restrictions to contain the spread of the virus.
