STAFF REPORT ISB: Pakistani mobile telephony operator Ufone has extended deployment of the biometric verification system (BVS) for issuance or changing of new SIMs to over 200 cities across the country.

The operator also said it expects to extend this BVS network to over 50,000 outlets in the near future.

In May, the government of Pakistan had signed an agreement with the countrys five mobile companies under which the operator will not be able to issue new SIMs after 31 July without verifying the biometric identity of the applicant from the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) system.
