Digital Skills Initiative Launches To Empower Black Women

The Momentum Metropolitan Foundation has joined forces with Deviare to launch a transformative digital skills initiative, aiming to empower 10 young black women in critical technological domains, with a specific focus on cybersecurity. The program seeks to equip participants with the skills needed to succeed in the ever-evolving digital landscape.

With a commitment to promoting gender diversity and empowerment, this initiative exclusively targets young black females. The group, comprising a well-balanced mix of 70% graduates and 30% non-graduates, demonstrates a commitment to inclusivity across educational backgrounds.

The regional distribution of participants underscores a strategic and inclusive approach to geographical representation. Four participants hail from Limpopo, two from Mpumalanga, and four from Gauteng, showcasing a commitment to diversity in terms of location.

Nkosinathi Mahlangu, the Youth Employment Portfolio Head at Momentum Metropolitan, emphasized the initiative’s significance, stating, “This collaboration embodies our commitment to fostering diversity and empowering the next generation of female technology leaders. We believe that providing comprehensive digital skills and real-world experiences is essential for their success.”

The Digital Empowerment Program offers participants comprehensive training in critical technological domains, with a special emphasis on cybersecurity. The goal is to provide essential skills for navigating the modern digital landscape, ensuring that participants are well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities in the technology sector.

One of the program’s standout features is the Virtual Global Apprenticeship, offering participants invaluable job experience, mentorship, and global networking opportunities for personal development and enhanced employability. This virtual apprenticeship allows participants to gain remote work experience with renowned organizations worldwide, broadening their perspectives and skills on a global scale.

Upon successful completion of the program, the top three learners will be offered an exclusive six-month placement by Deviare. This placement not only provides hands-on experience but also serves as a pathway to exciting career opportunities within the leading technology organization.

Lubabalo Dyantyi at Deviare expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, saying, “Deviare is honored to partner with Momentum Metropolitan Foundation in this initiative. We are dedicated to offering meaningful opportunities that enable young women to thrive in critical technological domains, contributing to the industry’s overall growth.”

The collaboration between Momentum Metropolitan Foundation and Deviare represents a significant step forward in addressing gender diversity and empowerment in the technology sector.

By focusing on the specific needs of young black women and providing them with comprehensive training and real-world experiences, the digital skills initiative aims to create a pipeline of skilled and empowered female leaders in the technology industry. As the digital landscape continues to evolve, initiatives like these play a crucial role in shaping a more inclusive and diverse future for the tech workforce.
