Water Scarcity In Pakistan, A Serious Threat To Country’s Growth

In a proactive response to the pressing issue of water scarcity in the region, WWF Pakistan orchestrated a two-day training workshop on water resources titled “Accountability for Water Means” in Abbottabad. The collaborative effort aimed to empower local communities in understanding, addressing, and collectively combatting water-related challenges.

Led by WWF Pakistan’s Social Mobilizer, Masood Zaman, and coordinated by Anas Rehman and Social Mobilizer Syed Ishtiaq Shah, the training brought together representatives from local organizations in Haripur and Abbottabad. Noteworthy participants included members of the union councils of Nathia Gali and Bakot from Abbottabad, as well as Khanpur and Najafpur from Haripur.

The workshop served as a platform for open discussions on prevalent water-related issues at the local level. Participants delved into concerns such as irregularities in water supply exacerbated by unpredictable weather changes, untimely rainfall and snowfall leading to water shortages, and the broader challenge of diminishing clean drinking water sources in these areas.

Active engagement characterized the event, with participants sharing their experiences and concerns. Coordinators, in turn, facilitated the exchange of ideas and potential solutions, fostering a collaborative approach to addressing the complex issue of water scarcity. Through group discussions and the use of visual aids, presentations were delivered to underscore various community challenges, enhancing the participants’ understanding of the multifaceted nature of the problem.

The “Accountability for Water Means” workshop not only served as an informative platform but also as a catalyst for community-driven action. By encouraging a bottom-up approach, the training aimed to empower local representatives and organizations to take ownership of water-related issues and work collectively towards sustainable solutions.

The initiative aligns with WWF Pakistan‘s commitment to environmental conservation and underscores the organization’s role as a facilitator of knowledge-sharing and community mobilization. As communities in Abbottabad come together to tackle water scarcity, the workshop stands as a testament to the potential impact of collaborative efforts in addressing pressing environmental challenges at the grassroots level.
