China Unveils Global Science & Tech Initiative At Belt And Road Conference

China made a historic move by unveiling an international science and technology cooperation initiative during the Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange in Chongqing Municipality.

This groundbreaking initiative advocates for open, fair, and non-discriminatory international cooperation in science and technology, emphasizing that scientific progress benefits all of humanity, regardless of borders.

The proposal emphasizes the enhancement of global science and technology governance, bolstering protection for intellectual property rights, and fostering worldwide collaboration in technological innovation. Additionally, it aims to establish a global innovation network to drive progress.

The initiative stresses the importance of unhindered movement of technological innovation resources and personnel worldwide, and encourages the strengthening of talent exchanges and cooperation. It promotes the equal participation of all nations and scientific research organizations in international science and technology cooperation.

Furthermore, the initiative calls for deeper collaboration and knowledge-sharing between technological innovation entities, seeking new models of global technological innovation cooperation that are mutually beneficial and lead to win-win outcomes.

Minister of Science and Technology, Yin Hejun, highlighted the unprecedented global changes currently underway, emphasizing that humanity faces increasingly significant challenges. He stressed the need for international cooperation, sharing, and exploring technological innovation solutions to address the challenges of our time, ultimately promoting peaceful development.

Official statistics released at the conference, which concluded on Tuesday, revealed that China has inked intergovernmental agreements on scientific and technological cooperation with over 80 Belt and Road partner countries.

Additionally, China has jointly established more than 50 Belt and Road laboratories in crucial fields like health, transportation, materials, and energy. The nation has also established over 20 agricultural technology demonstration centers and more than 70 industrial parks in Belt and Road partner countries, further solidifying its commitment to global scientific and technological advancement.

The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), also known as One Belt, One Road (OBOR), is a global development strategy proposed by China in 2013 that aims to build trade and infrastructure networks with the intention of fostering economic cooperation among China, the countries of Central Asia, West Asia, South Asia, South East Asia, and Eastern and Central Europe.
