These stray EM waves, ubiquitous in our environment, emanate from both intentional sources like radio and cellular signals, as well as inadvertent emissions from electronic devices in homes and workplaces.

The newly unveiled module, designed by Sony’s semiconductor arm, boasts a unique architecture integrating a specialized antenna and a high-efficiency rectifier circuit.

The antenna captures EM wave noise emitted by the metal components of electronic devices, while the rectifier circuit converts this captured energy into a direct current with significantly enhanced electricity conversion efficiency. Although specific metrics regarding the module’s efficiency have yet to be disclosed, the system is adept at capturing waves across a frequency spectrum ranging from several Hz to 100 MHz.

As the proliferation of IoT devices continues, conventional batteries, with their limited lifespan and environmental implications, present significant challenges.
