Egypt Launches Inaugural Environmental And Climate Investment Forum

In a significant stride towards environmental sustainability, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly inaugurated the maiden edition of the Environmental and Climate Investment Forum, hosted in the new administrative capital to the east of Cairo. The event is geared towards evaluating the investment prospects in the domains of green economy and climate resilience, as outlined by the Egyptian cabinet.

The forum, backed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (Switzerland’s international cooperation agency), is a collaborative effort with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) through the “Inclusive Green Growth in Egypt” project.

Egyptian Minister of Environment, Yasmine Fouad, affirmed that this forum will transform into an annual event, providing a platform to showcase investment opportunities to the private sector and bolster investments in the green initiatives.

She emphasized that hosting the forum underscores the nation’s dedication to realizing the objectives of the Sustainable Development Strategy: Egypt’s vision 2030, while building upon the successes of the 27th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) held in Egypt in 2022.

Official data reveals that the forum encompassed six sessions, including one focused on creating an enabling environment for climate and environmental investments across sectors like agriculture, waste management, ecotourism, and bio-based industries.

Additionally, the event marked the launch of a new e-platform providing comprehensive insights into Egypt’s investment landscape, green economy prospects, and climate resilience initiatives. This digital platform aims to streamline the information dissemination and facilitate connections within the investment ecosystem.

The Environmental and Climate Investment Forum sets a pivotal precedent for fostering the sustainable practices in Egypt, emphasizing the country’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable economic growth. The collaboration between the government entities, international organizations, and private sectors showcases a concerted effort towards a greener, more resilient future for the nation.
