SunPower Company's New Grants Propel America's Clean Energy Transition

In a groundbreaking move towards a more inclusive clean energy landscape, SunPower (NASDAQ:SPWR), a prominent residential solar technology and energy services provider, has unveiled three transformative grant programs. These initiatives, underwritten by the SunPower Foundation, the philanthropic arm of company, aim to facilitate an equitable transition towards clean energy solutions.

Maribelle Bostic, Head of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at SunPower, emphasized the disproportionate impact of the climate crisis on underserved communities, citing their limited resources to combat its effects.

Bostic asserted that access to a livable climate is a fundamental human right, contingent upon the widespread adoption of clean energy technologies. The SunPower Foundation is committed to investing in projects that propel us towards a future where solar energy is accessible to all, while meaningfully combating climate change.

These grants are open to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations dedicated to advancing clean energy equity across the United States. The three grant programs include:

  • Workforce Development Grant: This program aims to bolster diversity within the solar workforce by creating career opportunities for women, minorities, and individuals of color. It encompasses training initiatives, career awareness campaigns, and STEM education.
  • Minority and Women Owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) Grant: Designed to ensure industry equity, this grant provides essential support to entrepreneurs in the solar sector through coaching and business development.
  • Solar Accessibility, Affordability, and Resiliency Grant: This initiative focuses on assisting historically underserved communities, particularly those impacted by climate disasters, in adopting solar solutions.

SunPower’s commitment to these grants builds on the company’s earlier strides towards achieving its 25×25 targets. These goals aim to make the economic and resiliency advantages of solar and battery storage accessible to all Americans.

Eligible entities can apply for grants ranging from $5,000 to $100,000 annually. The application window is currently open and will remain so until October 20, with recipients set to be announced by year-end.

Since its inception, the SunPower Foundation has awarded over $1 million in grants to expand solar access. Previous beneficiaries include esteemed organizations such as GRID Alternatives, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento, and Solar Energy International (SEI), among others.

SunPower (NASDAQ:SPWR) stands as a leading solar, storage, and energy services provider in North America. SunPower company offers integrated solar + storage solutions, uniquely designed and backed by a single entity, empowering customers to take charge of their electricity consumption and enhance resiliency during power disruptions while simultaneously delivering cost savings to homeowners.
