Eight more small dams are scheduled to be finished by July 2023, bringing the total number of small dams built under the SID component to 60.

The World Bank has rated the implementation of ‘Sindh Resilience Project’ with completely disbursed at $292.24 million.

The goals of  ‘Sindh Resilience Project’ are to reduce the risk of flooding and drought in particular areas and to improve Sindh’s ability to handle natural disasters and public health emergencies.

According to the project documentation, overall implementation and progress towards achieving the project development objective (PDO) are proceeding satisfactorily.

Around 5.3 million people have benefited from the project, with women making up about 48% of those beneficiaries.

The total amount spent on the project is $292.24 million. Land area protected and the number of at-risk individuals receiving early warning notifications are two indicators that have exceeded goals; improved institutional capacity and the establishment of Sindh Emergency Service are two indicators that have been fully achieved; and one indicator has been substantially achieved (Direct project beneficiaries).

The weirs’ ability to enable infiltration through ponding and the groundwater recharge caused by the dams’ efficient operation during the flooding of 2022 benefited the nearby communities. There were no alleged structural damages.

The majority of project activities under the PDMA Sindh component have been finished, including the creation of an early warning system, the creation of disaster management plans for 30 districts, and the debut of the Disaster Management Information System.

The creation of a comprehensive and independent emergency response service in Sindh was one of the key initiatives. Since May 31, 2022, a special helpline number, “1122,” has been established to offer vital services throughout 12 districts, including long-distance medical transfers, accident response, and support for law and order. Thousands of calls are made to the Rescue 1122 hotline every day, and it regularly works with other departments to plan effective emergency responses.
