The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Pakistan and Switzerland regarding disaster management was hailed by the prime minister on Saturday.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on disaster management was seen as a crucial step towards fostering cooperation between the two nations in order to utilise technology and expertise in the future to jointly address the natural disaster.

Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, the prime minister expressed his enthusiasm for Swiss cooperation in acquiring an early warning system and other technology to help Pakistan be as protected from natural disasters as possible.

He emphasised that despite Pakistan having very low carbon emissions, the country was still experiencing the effects of global climate change.

The prime minister also stated that Pakistan was blessed with a beautiful environment and that they wanted to deepen their bilateral ties with Switzerland in a number of areas, including the travel and tourism industry.

The prime minister expressed appreciation for the foreign minister of Switzerland’s comments regarding the peace in the area and stated that it was crucial to keep the peace in this area of the world and that Switzerland could act as a catalyst to advance peace in the area.

According to him, Pakistan likes to encourage development and prosperity, end unemployment and poverty, and improve industries like education, IT, and agriculture for the benefit of its citizens.

He asserted that the opposing side ought to understand this. Pakistan did not want to waste its resources and could not afford for there to be tension in the region. He emphasised that it must devote its resources to the nation’s development.

The prime minister emphasised that until their issues, including Kashmir, were resolved, there could not be a lasting peace in this region of the world.

Ignazio Cassis, Switzerland’s foreign minister, said signing the Memorandum of Understanding between the two nations was essential for cooperation in the fight against climate change.

He claimed that although Pakistan had a rich cultural history and beautiful landscapes, it had also grown more vulnerable to natural disasters, which led to the flooding of last year and widespread devastation.

The Swiss minister claimed that in order to reduce the risks brought on by the natural disasters, urgent international cooperation was required.

He reiterated his commitment to further solidify the bilateral ties and to combine their resources in this area while extending the cooperation of his government in this regard.
