UHS Approves New Assessment Policy For MBBS Students

The World Health Organization (WHO) has formally endorsed the medical journalism diploma offered by the University of Health Sciences (UHS), marking an important milestone for the institution. With this approval, Pakistan becomes the first nation in the region to provide such a programme.

The Eastern Mediterranean Association of Medical Editors (EMAME), a WHO subsidiary organisation, approved the diploma. Farhad Handjani, the president of EMAME in Iran, praised UHS for its efforts and emphasised the program’s importance in raising the calibre of medical journals not only in Pakistan but also outside of its borders.

The diploma programme at UHS aims to improve writing and editing abilities in Pakistani medical research journals. Under the direction of medical journalist Shaukat Ali Jawaid, it first started out as a certificate programme called the Certificate in Medical Editing in 2017.

A second certificate programme called Medical Journalism for Editors was unveiled later in 2022. They have been completed successfully by more than 150 health professionals.

For students who pass both certificate programmes, the university syndicate recently approved a Diploma in Medical Writing and Journalism.
