UVAS, IFC Explore Collaboration In Livestock And Agriculture

The International Finance Corporation, a member of the World Bank Group, and the University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences Lahore talked about potential areas of agriculture and livestock collaboration.

A four-person IFC delegation, led by Senior Private Sector Specialist Charles Schneider, visited the UVAS and met with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasim Ahmad. The delegation also included Operating Officer Agri Business Muddassir Shafique, Agri Business Specialist Zaheer Ahmad, and Private Sector Specialist Reshma Aftab.

The IFC delegation expressed interest in collaboration with UVAS on livestock projects, particularly those involving the production of animal protein, meat, and vaccines. The issues of food quality and safety, meat and milk traceability, and FDI and export problems brought on by the foot-and-mouth disease were also covered.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasim Ahmad gave the delegation a presentation on the UVAS academic, research, extension, and community service programmes. According to him, UVAS has close ties to the sector and offers stakeholders in both the public and private livestock sectors policy guidelines.

According to him, the university has a licence for the production of FMD vaccine at its Ravi and is actively addressing the issue of foot and mouth disease. He commended the IFC for wanting to collaborate and stated that UVAS was always open to working with businesses, organisations, and agencies on the national and international levels.

University of Poonch Vice-Chancellor visits UVAS

University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences Lahore Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasim Ahmad received a visit from Vice-Chancellor University of Poonch Rawalakot Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zakria Zakir on Monday. Additionally present were Prof. Dr. Kamran Ashraf, Chairman of the Department of Parasitology, and Prof. Dr. Habib-ur-Rehman, Dean of the Biosciences.

The potential for collaboration was discussed by both Vice-Chancellors, particularly in the fields of veterinary science and staff and faculty capacity building.

The UVAS academic, research, extension, and community services were discussed with the vice chancellor of Poonch University by Prof. Nasim. Prof. Dr. Zakria Zakir stated that UVAS has historical significance as well as a desire for cooperation in areas of common interest.

World Environment Day observed

In Lahore, Pakistan, the University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences observed World Environment Day on Monday with the theme “Beating Plastic Pollution.” An awareness walk and a seminar were organised by the Department of Environmental Sciences.

The walk was led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasim Ahmad while environmental experts spoke in the seminar about various environmental topics. Students displayed their solutions to the plastic pollution problem.
