Prior to his selection for the top position, Major General Hafeezur Rehman (r) was reportedly going to be named the new Member Administration in the PTA by the government.

Major General Hafeezur Rehman has been appointed as the chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) with the approval of the Prime Minister.

Although the official announcement of his appointment as PTA Chairman has not yet been made, numerous media reports have confirmed the news.

Prior to his selection for the top position, Major General Hafeezur Rehman (r) was reportedly going to be named the new Member Administration in the PTA by the government.

Interviews with the candidates took place last Friday. On the advice of Federal Minister for Defense, the committee rejected 22 candidates after the interview.

Dr. Muhammad Amir Malik was the initial front-runner for the job, but he withdrew it out of disinterest. Although Dr. Malik’s choice is respected, it gave Major General Hafeez Ur Rehman the chance to fill this crucial position within the PTA. The appointment of Major General Rehman is the result of his outstanding credentials and commitment to serving the country.

The scrutiny/shortlisting committee for the position of Member Administration created the list. The Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued a stay order, halting the recruitment process, which temporarily hampered the appointment of the Member (Administration).

The IHC later lifted the stay, allowing the appointment to go ahead for the federal government. It is significant to remember that the petition’s related legal proceedings may go forward on their own. With the existing positions for Members Technical, Finance, and Compliance & Enforcement, the government hopes to expand the PTA to four members. The chairmanship is customarily assumed by the Member Technical.

The government, however, has chosen to increase the number of members. The Cabinet Division has yet to begin reviewing the applicants, and the process for choosing a new member (Technical) has been delayed. The scrutiny and shortlisting process will start soon, as the officials have promised, but there is no timetable for when the Member (Technical) will be appointed.
