Chinese Ambassador Appreciates Initiative For Vocational Training Program

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan held the second cohort of the capacity building training workshop for the faculty of Affiliated Colleges (ACs) of the Lahore Division in accordance with the Higher Education Development in Pakistan (HEDP) project.

The faculty of 50 Affiliated Colleges (ACs) of the Lahore Division participated in a three-day capacity-building workshop held by the HEDP team at the University of Engineering & Technology, Lahore.

More than 60% of the 91 participants in the batch were women. In addition to Lahore, these educators came from Shahdara, Kasur, Pattoki, Phool Nagar, Chunian, Kot Rada Kishen, Mustafaabad, Kanganpur, Khudian Khas, Changa Manga, Muridke, Nankana Sahib, Narang Mandi, Shahkot, Sangla Hill, Bucheki, and Sheikhupura.

The course was divided into ten modules, including: a) Transition to Semester System; b) Semester System Planning & Management; c) Academic Advisement & Career Progression; d) Use of Technology in Teaching; e) Use of Technology in Assessment; f) Learning Assessment & Feedback; g) Quality in Learning; h) Curriculum Development; i) Course Development; and j) Teaching Methodology: Andragogy and Pedagogy.

The HEDP project is focused on supporting Pakistan’s AC-based tertiary education system, and includes initiatives such as IT support, governance, capacity building, and financial autonomy. Advocacy meetings with HED Punjab resulted in the nomination of 1600 faculty members from 800 Affiliated Colleges, leading to the training.

Prior to the training, a pre-training test was administered, and an online post-training test and feedback survey were also conducted. The training had a significant positive impact on the participants’ lives, according to the pre- and post-test results.

The participants acknowledged the HEC’s efforts and suggested that the Higher Education Department, the HEC, and Affiliated Universities (AUs) collaborate more closely. They also suggested that faculty and staff receive regular training.

Mr. Nadeem Asghar, Deputy Secretary HED Punjab, highlighted the importance of effective coordination between federal and provincial agencies and the importance of training ACs. He pushed for increased cooperation between HEDP/HEC Islamabad and HED Punjab. Mr. Asad Khan led the activity on behalf of HEC.
