The 80,000-strong Pakistani diaspora, according to the prime minister, is contributing significantly to Scotland’s economy and will only serve to deepen ties between the two countries. On Sunday, Scottish First Minister Humza Yousaf had a meeting with Prime Minister.

The two leaders decided to further develop the long-standing ties between Scotland and Pakistan, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, education, water management, wind and solar technology, and inter-personal relationships.

The two parties decided to cooperate in order to promote joint ventures in renewable energy, skill development, and education. They also looked into how to use Scottish-Pakistani business people to encourage investment in Pakistan. Additionally, they decided to tackle the problem of climate change jointly.

Pakistan proposed holding an investment conference in Scotland and setting up a separate road show to highlight Pakistan’s renewable energy potential in Scotland in this regard.

The prime minister extended his gratitude to the Scottish government for its kind assistance with flood relief the previous year. Mr. Yousaf was cordially invited to Pakistan by the prime minister, and he gratefully accepted.

The Scottish Parliament chose Mr. Yousaf, the leader of the Scottish National Party, to serve as prime minister of Scotland in March. He holds the coveted position as the first British national of Pakistani descent.
