Without reducing technical inefficiency, the industry will be unable to compete on the global market because it already experiences cost issues and suffers energy losses of more than 50% due to outdated technology and ineffective labour.

Alamgir Chaudhary, Chief Executive Officer NPO, made this statement at a conference on sharing lessons learned under the energy efficiency competitive reinforcement initiative, auto parts/leather footwear, organised by the National Productivity Organization (NPO), the Ministry of Industries & Production, in collaboration with Cluster Development Initiative (CDI) & Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PSIC) on Monday at a nearby hotel.

After evaluating their energy usage, the CEO stated that the NPO was working to help the industry become capable of conserving energy through guidance and training. He also disclosed that almost all major industrial units were found to be wasting 40 to 60 percent energy due to a lack of technology and an inefficient workforce.

Senior Energy Auditor NPO Hammad Altaf provided information about their visits to various industrial facilities where they discovered numerous energy leaks in motors, compressors, lights, and fans. He also provided staff training on how to complete the task of saving 30 to 40 percent energy in their facilities.

Anus Haroon, general secretary of the Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts & Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM), and other industrial unit owners thanked the NPO for helping them and for starting a successful energy efficiency drive and implementing it in their facilities. They shared their success stories regarding energy savings.

The Punjab government, according to Ehsan Bhutta, secretary of industries, has always supported the sector and worked to foster a favourable business environment. He commended the NPO for starting the initiative and promised to launch similar drives for Punjab’s small industries.

Technical inefficiency occurs when a business or a specific machine is unable to produce the greatest number of goods possible given the available resources—time, labour, materials, etc.
