Jordan Varsity Holds Workshop On Modern Spectroscopic Techniques

A “Workshop on Modern Spectroscopic Techniques and Their Applications in Research” was jointly organised by the chemistry department of the University of Jordan and COMSTECH between March 12 and 14.

This three-day workshop featured lectures from renowned academics and practical sessions that gave participants first-hand experience interpreting spectroscopic data. The workshop provided the chance for in-person instruction on contemporary spectroscopic equipment and software that are employed in the fields of chemical and biological sciences.

Lectures that were followed by a discussion session boosted knowledge of contemporary spectroscopic techniques and encouraged collaboration between scientists from OIC nations. It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to this three-day event, which COMSTECH and the University of Jordan have jointly organised, said Assistant Secretary General-OIC, H.E. Mr. Askar Mussinov.

According to him, spectroscopy provides the essential tools for examining the structure and operation of both biological macromolecules and small chemical compounds.

He stated that we sincerely hope that this event, with the assistance of eminent academics from various universities and R & D organisations, will contribute to the growth and strengthening of the capacity in modern spectroscopic techniques at the regional level.

He thanked COMSTECH and the University of Jordan for organising this illustrious gathering on behalf of the OIC secretariat in Jeddah and pledged the full backing of our secretariat to COMSTECH in the accomplishment of its goals.

The University of Jordan announced during the opening session that it had signed an agreement with COMSTECH to join the Consortium of Excellence (CCoE). As resources, spectroscopy experts from Germany, China, Greece, Pakistan, Jordan, and Egypt took part.

We had pioneers in the field among these speakers, whose work is illuminating many chemists and biologists globally. The workshop was attended by researchers from Algeria, Pakistan, Jordan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Turkiye, USA, Kenya, Palestine, and Kazakhstan.

The inaugural session was addressed by H.E. Prof. Dr. Nathir Obeidat, The President of the University of Jordan, H.E. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General COMSTECH / Director ICCBS, H.E. Maj. Gen. Sajjad Ali Khan (Retd.), Ambassador, Embassy of Islamic Republic Of Pakistan, Amman, Jordan, H.E. Ambassador Askar Mussinov, Assistant Secretary General (S&T), Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia, H. E. Prof. Dr. Atta – Ur- Rahman (FRS), President, Network of Academy of Sciences of Islamic Countries (NASIC), Professor Emeritus/Patron-In-Chief ICCBS, H. E. Prof. Dr. Adnan Badran, Chair of The Board of Trustees of The University of Jordan, H.E. Prof. Dr. Azmi Mahafza, Minister of Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research.
