UHS Approves Accreditation Of Medical, Dental & Nursing Colleges

The accreditation of two new medical facilities, one dental college, 13 nursing facilities, as well as an increase in the number of MBBS and BDS seats at ten affiliated medical and dental colleges, was approved on Thursday by the University of Health Sciences’ (UHS) Syndicate.

The federal regulator’s approval of seat expansion led to this choice. The UHS syndicate held its first meeting since reforming earlier this month under the direction of Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ahsan Waheed Rathore.

Along with Niazi Medical and Dental College Sargodha for 50 BDS seats, the UHS syndicate also granted affiliation to two additional medical schools: Akhtar Saeed Medical College Rawalpindi and RLKU Medical and Dental College Lahore. Of the 13 accredited nursing schools, 11 are government-run institutions and two are funded by private sources.

By adopting the specified deadlines for programme completion in the Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) Ph.D. Policy, the rules governing the acceptability of MPhil and other on-campus Master’s programmes were revised.

The candidates who had been stuck in these programmes for several years for any reason would be given a few months to finish their research project and degree, after which their enrollment would be terminated. It was agreed that the minimum time required to complete these programmes would be two years.

No institute would be permitted to make admissions outside of the university’s published admission timetable for the MBBS, BDS, BS Nursing, Allied Health Sciences, and other programmes offered both on-campus and at affiliated institutions. The group decided to award a Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Writing and Journalism to those who successfully completed the two certificate programmes in medical editing (CME) and medical journalism for editors (CMJE).

Additionally, modifications to the rules governing the evaluation of Ph.D. and M.Phil. theses were made in order to bring them into compliance with the HEC’s recommendations. The requirement for foreign evaluators for theses at the Master’s degree level was eliminated to reduce process delays.
