MoCC Launches Strengthening Climate Adaptation & Resilience Project

The German Cooperation and the Federal Ministry of Climate Change (MoCC) have launched the Strengthening Climate Adaptation and Resilience Project in Pakistan in an effort to improve the nation’s capacity to deal with the effects of climate change, particularly in vulnerable communities and sectors like health, agriculture, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH).

In order to ensure that the project’s benefits are fairly distributed among various communities, including women, youth, and other marginalized groups, the Strengthening Climate Adaptation and Resilience (SAR) Project in Pakistan prioritizes gender-inclusive and socially inclusive approaches.

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is in charge of carrying out the project, which is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Mr. Syed Mujtaba Hussain, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Climate Change (MoCC), expressed appreciation for the German government’s support during the launch and emphasised that the SAR project will be crucial in bringing together all stakeholders from the federal and provincial levels.

He emphasised the significance of sustainable development for Pakistan’s future and urged all stakeholders to collaborate in order to ensure the project’s success.

The SAR project, he continued, will help us determine Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate change and give us the tools we need to deal with its effects. Additionally, SAR will assist us in bringing the insurance industry on board via the Global Risk Modeling Alliance (GRMA).

The Head of Development Cooperation at the German Embassy in Pakistan, Dr. Sebastian Paust, stated, “In its nationally determined contributions, Pakistan has identified a number of priority areas, including enhancing weather-related early warning systems, building infrastructure that is climate resilient, and enhancing water management and irrigation techniques.

Through the SAR project, Germany will support these strategic goals in order to help Pakistan achieve its NDCs.” Participants talked about how important climate adaptation and resilience are to reducing the effects of climate change on infrastructure, ecosystems, and vulnerable communities.

The speakers stressed that partnerships and cooperation between the government, civil society, and private sector are essential to the project’s success.

In order to highlight the significance of climate change adaptation and resilience-building, representatives from various government agencies, non-governmental organisations, civil society, and the private sector came together for the launch ceremony.

The beginning of Pakistan’s Strengthening Climate Adaptation and Resilience Project represents an important turning point in the nation’s efforts to address the problems caused by climate change. Pakistan is making a bold move to increase resilience and adapt to the effects of climate change with the help of its partners, which will help ensure a more sustainable and resilient future for everyone.
