Under the auspices of the Entomological Society of Sindh (ESS), the Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) hosted a one-of-a-kind exhibition and painting competitions on friendly and hostile insects related to agriculture at the Faculty of Crop Protection.

Students from Sindh’s universities, schools, and colleges, as well as students from the Deaf and Reach School in Tando Allahyar, took part. The Vice Chancellor presented shields and certificates to the successful students.

Various types of agricultural insects were displayed during the entomology exhibition, and painting competitions were held among students from Sindh University Jamshoro, the Federal Urdu University Karachi, SK Raheem Girls School Hyderabad, Zubaida Girls College Hyderabad, the Deaf and Reach School Rashidabad School, and the host Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam. Dr. Fateh Marri, Vice Chancellor of SAU, attended the exhibition.

Dr. Fateh Marri, Vice Chancellor, Sindh Agriculture University, addressed the event and stated that this is a one-of-a-kind exhibition organized by the Entomological Society of Sindh, that the students’ interest is palpable, that the students have collected agriculturally friendly and hostile insects and have learned a lot about these insects, and that this is a commendable step by the Crop Protection Faculty and the Entomological Society of Sindh.

He stated that the importance of harmful pests and friendly insects in agriculture cannot be overstated and that harmful pests have negative effects on agriculture, particularly agricultural exports.

The Vice Chancellor stated that the exhibition would provide students with practical information on how to prevent pests from invading agricultural crops, orchards, and vegetables, and that if such harmful pests could be controlled, we would be able to increase exports and address obstacles to Pakistani production in global markets.

Dr. Imran Khatri, Dr. Agha Mushtaq, Dr. Irfan Gulal, and others also spoke at the event. According to the committee’s findings, Miss Shehrbano of M.Sc. came in first, Mukhtar Ali of third year came in second, and the students of Sindh University Jamshoro came in third.

Miss Yaseem of SK Rahim Girls High School Hyderabad took first place in the insect painting competition, followed by Miss Ariba of SK Rahim Girls High School Hyderabad and Miss Jawaria of Federal Urdu University Karachi.

During the ceremony, Dr. Zubair from the Federal Urdu University Karachi, Dr. Rifat Sultana from Sindh University, and Miss Ansha from the Deaf and Reach School in Sultan Abad were also present, and the students performed quizzes, humorous poetry, a tableau, and songs.

The Vice Chancellor and other guests also presented shields, certificates of appreciation, and cash prizes to the winners and participants. Dr. Mubeen Lodhi, Dr. Bhai Khan Solangi, Dr. Shahzad Ali Nahyon, and others were also in attendance.
