COMSTECH To Hold Intl' Workshop On Research, Innovation Strategy

An international workshop on “Defining Research and Innovation Strategy for Excellence” will be held by COMSTECH, the OIC Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation, in association with other partner institutions, from February 27 to March 3.

An official with COMSTECH stated that the workshop would be organized in cooperation with Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) and the National University of Science and Technology (NUST).

The workshop will be held at Kampala’s Islamic University while participants from Pakistan will virtually participate. According to the new model of higher education, universities play a crucial part in a knowledge-based economy that connects all facets of society.

Future-focused thinking, adequate planning, and maintaining relevancy in a world that is changing quickly are necessary for sustaining leadership for the ensuing decades and beyond.

Excellence in research frequently calls for cross-campus, regional, and international collaboration among various academic disciplines as well as with businesses and other organisations on a national and international scale.

The major global challenges could be addressed using new knowledge and indigenous solutions in order to achieve excellence in research and innovation.

Universities are a great place to spread innovation because they can help research become commercialized and have an effect on the community. According to studies, the best academic institutions have collaborated closely with business and government agencies to boost their research output.

The workshop is intended to identify the following key priorities that universities should take into account when defining their research and innovation strategy, which could serve as the road map for the years to come, the official said when asked about the workshop’s goals.

These priorities include identifying core competencies and focus areas within the research and innovation framework, which aligns the university’s research and innovation portfolio with national needs and global challenges, as well as promoting entrepreneurial activities by leveraging the university’s research base to find creative, cost-effective, indigenous solutions to a variety of societal challenges.

The workshop will also focus on the transfer of technologies and innovations that have been developed at the university to other sectors of the economy.

Resource people from NUST will present lectures and share their experiences on how to enhance the quality of research by investing in human resources, fostering applied research and innovation in academic institutions, and creating a conducive environment for research.

In terms of developing its ecosystem for education, research, and innovation, NUST has emerged as a leader. NUST put a lot of effort into creating cutting-edge facilities, academic programs, international connections, competitive faculty, and programs for fostering talents for the country.

The workshop has been created to address the interest of university administration, researchers, officials, policymakers, and enforcement officers in universities of OIC’s least developed nations.
