Pakistan Rice Export To China In 2022 Surpasses USD 455M

Ghulam Qadir, the commercial counsellor at Pakistan’s embassy in Beijing, China, reported that Pakistan’s export of rice to China in 2022 exceeded USD 455 million with a volume of more than one million tons, marking a first in the history of China-Pakistan rice trade.

According to the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC), Ghulam Qadir stated that China imported more than 1.19 million tons of various types of rice from Pakistan last year, a 53 percent increase from the previous year.

“Due to government assistance and the grit of businesspeople, our rice export to China recently exceeded one million tons. It is anticipated that these exports will increase as China opens up,” he continued.

He added that, in 2022, China imported from Pakistan 211.88 million USD worth of semi- or fully-milled rice (commodity code: 10063020), while imports of two types of broken rice (commodity codes: 10064020 and 10064080) from Pakistan totaled 162.78 million USD and 80.74 million USD, respectively.

“By establishing both offline and online pavilions, the Chinese government is assisting Pakistan. Pakistani rice has already made it onto China’s e-commerce platform, and sales are anticipated to continue to rise. We are collaborating with GACC to ensure that more Pakistani rice businesses register and to further increase our exports,” Qadir said in a comment.

Commercial Counselor told China Economic Net that Pakistani rice is becoming more and more popular in the Chinese market as a result of its exquisite flavor and quality, and that the total number of Pakistani businesses registered with GACC also rose last year, now standing at 62.

The “Registration Single Window E-Systems” project at the port is being organised and promoted by the General Administration of Customs China (GACC), which is in charge of all national customs work. It includes work policies, drafting pertinent laws and regulations, and creating customs plans, departmental regulations, and pertinent technical specifications. It also includes entry and exit inspections and quarantine.
