A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on February 14, 2023 to focuses on developing programs to access government and non-government research funding, academic publications, and trainings to raise the institutions’ standards in science, academia, and research.

MoU was signed by the Center for BRI and China Studies at the Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies (IPDS) in Pakistan and the China Study Center at the Junaid Zaidi Library at COMSATS University Islamabad.

Prof. Dr. Sajjad Ahmed Madani, Registrar, CUI, and Muhammad Asif Noor, Director, IPDS, signed the MoU.

The memorandum apart from raising standards in science, academia, and research, also includes an exchange of data and viewpoints on regional and interregional development, social and strategic studies, international relations, foreign policy, and other topics and issues of mutual interest to the parties.

Additionally, there will be a promotion of China-Pakistan relations, a forum for BRI friends, and other significant topics of shared interest. Experienced scholars will also exchange ideas.

An independent, non-governmental, and nonprofit think tank called the Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies (IPDS) aims to strengthen international peace through dialogue and diplomacy by exchanging information, conducting research, analysing data, and developing policies in the fields of peace, conflict, development, and diplomatic studies.

The COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) was founded in 1998 as the COMSATS Institute of Information Technology by the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS), an intergovernmental organisation with 27 member states in three continents (Asia, Africa, and Latin America) (CIIT).

In August 2000, the Federal Government granted CIIT a charter, establishing it as a public sector institution of higher learning with the authority to award degrees.

In April 2018, CIIT was upgraded to a federally chartered university under the CUI Act of 2018. The China Study Centre has worked to provide multidisciplinary research on all facets of Chinese society, particularly CPEC and BRI, since its founding in 2013.

The Center wants to create a human resource pool that Chinese companies in Pakistan could easily choose from. The center’s top priorities are improving bilateral ties between the two countries and constantly familiarising oneself with Chinese language and culture.
