OGRA has approved gas utilities’ requests to instal mandatory conical baffles. On January 9, 2023, a public hearing was held at the OGRA head office in Islamabad.
In accordance with the Honourable Prime Minister of Pakistan’s Energy Conservation Plan, OGRA has made conical baffles installation in conventional gas geysers mandatory for domestic gas consumers.
In this regard, OGRA has approved gas utilities‘ requests to instal mandatory conical baffles. On January 9, 2023, a public hearing was held at the OGRA head office in Islamabad.
The installation of conical baffles will result in a 20 to 25% reduction in gas bills, thereby contributing to the country’s ongoing natural gas crisis. SNGPL teams will soon begin conducting door-to-door surveys of gas customers’ homes to ensure that conical baffles are installed in geysers.
If a consumer is found to be using a gas geyser without a conical baffle, SNGPL will instal one. The cost will be repaid in 12 monthly instalments through the gas bill.
Sui Northern Gas has requested that customers cooperate fully in order to expedite the installation of conical baffles, which will result in significant gas savings for customers. This will result in natural gas conservation, in line with the vision of Pakistan’s honourable prime minister’s energy conservation plan.
Due to the high demand for natural gas in domestic and commercial applications, Pakistan is experiencing natural gas load-shedding. Natural gas is the most common source of home heating and cooking in Pakistan. Natural gas distribution companies in Pakistan are taking several steps to reduce gas waste.
Baffles used in water geysers can save up to 25% on gas. In order to better serve its customers and reduce their gas bills during the winter, SNGPL has designed and developed a conical baffle to be inserted in the flue gas pipe of geysers, which will reduce gas consumption by up to 25%.
SNGPL intends to pre-qualify firms with a proven track record or experience in establishing a mechanism for manufacturing, marketing, and installing the required conical baffles at consumers’ doorsteps.
